Musick-al note # 58
There many passages of Scripture that show that Jesus lived in eternity before the world began. It is recorded in John 1:1-3, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.” Genesis 1:26, When God said, ‘Let us make man in our image’, He was referring to Jesus and the Spirit who were with Him at the creation of the world. Hebrews 1:3, “God, who at various times and in different ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds.” Hebrews 1:10, “You, LORD, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands.” 2 Timothy 1:9, Paul said that God’s purpose for man was made in Christ “before the world began”.
The eternal Godhead (Father, Son and Spirit) created man and gave him ‘freedom of choice’, either to obey His Word or choose another way. God foreknew that man would disobey (sin) and prepared redemption for those who would repent and obey Him. Peter stated, “Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you.” (1 Peter 1:18-20).
This great gift of sending Jesus into the world to redeem all who believe in Him and follow His will (Hebrews 5:9) was prepared before the world was created. Jesus carried out the Father’s will in dying for all men (2 Corinthians 5:15) by paying the debt every person incurs when we sin (Ezekiel 18:3). We are freed from sin when we obey Him as the apostle Paul obeyed (Hebrews 5:9, Acts 22:16).
